Peer Review Policy

Pamiętnik Literacki follows a rigorous peer review process to ensure the academic quality, originality, relevance, and integrity of all manuscripts considered for publication. Each submitted manuscript is first evaluated by the editorial team to determine whether it falls within the journal’s scope, meets basic scholarly and formatting requirements, and demonstrates sufficient academic merit. Manuscripts that do not meet these initial requirements may be declined before being sent for external review.

Manuscripts that pass the preliminary editorial assessment are normally evaluated by qualified independent reviewers with appropriate expertise in the subject area. The journal generally follows a double-anonymous peer review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another to the extent practicable. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and confidential assessments of the manuscript, focusing on its originality, methodological or analytical quality, scholarly contribution, clarity, structure, use of sources, and overall significance.

Reviewers should disclose any potential conflict of interest before accepting an assignment and should not use unpublished information obtained through the review process for personal or professional advantage. Reviews should be conducted impartially and within the requested timeframe. Any concerns regarding plagiarism, duplicate publication, unethical research practices, or other forms of academic misconduct should be communicated confidentially to the editorial team.

Based on the reviewers’ recommendations and the editor’s assessment, a manuscript may be accepted, accepted subject to revisions, returned to the authors for major revisions and further review, or rejected. Reviewer recommendations are advisory, and the final editorial decision rests with the journal’s editorial team. Where appropriate, revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation.

The journal maintains the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and the peer review process. Editorial decisions are made independently and are intended to uphold consistent academic standards. The journal may also seek additional expert opinions when reviewer recommendations differ substantially or when specialist assessment is required.
